Steelers Interviewed Hue Jackson for Offensive Coordinator Vacancy

Jackson hasn't coached since the 2018 season

CINCINNATI — A familiar face could return to the AFC North this offseason.

Former Browns head coach Hue Jackson interviewed for the Steelers offensive coordinator vacancy according to ESPN's Diana Russini.

Jackson hasn't coached since 2018. The Browns fired him after a 2-5-1 start in Cleveland. Later that year he joined the Bengals' staff as Marvin Lewis' special assistant.

Lewis and Jackson are best friends. With Lewis interviewing for multiple head coaching jobs across the league, it was safe to assume he would potentially hire Jackson as his offensive coordinator.

Lewis' outlook for a head coaching job doesn't look promising, but the door is open for Jackson to coach elsewhere.

He posted a 3-36-1 record with Cleveland from 2016-18. Before being named Browns head coach, Jackson was the Bengals' offensive coordinator.

Cincinnati's offense was one of the best in the NFL in 2015. Andy Dalton had an MVP caliber season and the Bengals went 12-4. Jackson's success on offense put him in position to go to Cleveland, which clearly didn't work out.

While he might not be a great head coach, Jackson is a proven offensive coordinator. He'd get the most out of an aging Ben Roethlisberger and a talented wide receiver group that includes Diontae Johnson and Chase Claypool.

Jackson interviewed for the Bengals' head coaching job in 2019. The organization ultimately hired Zac Taylor.

Jackson has interviewed with the Cardinals and other NFL teams over the past two years, but no one has hired him.
