Browns Signing Offensive Guard Depth Following First Preseason Game
Cleveland Browns have made their first roster move following their preseason-opening win over the New York Jets.
According to Matt Lombardo, the Browns are signing offensive guard Derrick Kelly. Kelly has spent time with both the New Orleans Saints and Carolina Panthers.
Kelly was undrafted out of Florida State and appeared in six games as a rookie for the Saints in 2020. In 2021, Kelly appeared in just one game with the Panthers.
Listed at 6-foot-5 and 320 pounds, Kelly is a pretty large human at the guard position. Joel Bitonio and Wyatt Teller are the known starters but Kelly joins a group of guys looking to provide depth.
Michael Dunn, Drew Forbes, Colby Gossett, and Wes Martin are battling for the backup jobs along with Kelly.
This move provides more training camp completion for the Browns, which is never a bad thing. It will be interesting to see if the 27-year-old Kelly can land on the roster or practice squad.
