Chargers News: Austin Ekeler Tries To Apologize For Post-KC Brandon Staley Remarks

Walking it back.

Chargers head coach Brandon Staley has taken his fair bit of criticism after two-plus seasons as LA's top man on the sidelines.

Fans have several negative opinions on his decisions but one of Staley's players also doesn't seem to believe in him.

Bolts running back Austin Ekeler spoke poorly about his head coach this week which forced his hand to apologize about his earlier comments.

"It doesn't matter how I feel, like, what matters is I have to go out and do my job. It's my job to go play well, and then that will make Staley look even better. I'm not spending one ounce of my energy thinking about how I feel because it doesn't matter," Ekeler continued. "What matters is I have to go execute. And if I don't feel like I did that at a high level, I can't think about anything besides that."

Ekeler's earlier comments were that he had no choice but to follow his head coach's direction despite the team's 2-4 record.

Though the running back walked these comments back, there may be some inklings of truth in his statement about his head coach.

Boneheaded play calling, poor scheming and dumfounding game management all cloud Staley's tenure through a string of close game losses throughout his time in LA.

Playoff failure, clutch losses and refusal to take accountability have Charger fans at their wit's end on a weekly basis.

Just this season, LA could easily be 0-6 had Staley's defense not bailed out his poor choices to go for it in his own territory in Weeks 3 and 4.

Coincidentally, the team could also be undefeated if they'd just made a few more plays throughout their defeats in what's become an infuriating rollercoaster ride.

Ekeler simply voiced what many Chargers fans are thinking and he too might know nothing changes while Staley sticks around.
