Chargers Want To Interview Assistant GM Of Asset-Rich NFC North Squad

Is he the answer for the Bolts?

Your Los Angeles Chargers' big offseason will likely begin with the signing of a new general manager, and a few executives from well-constructed teams have popped up on their radar, including from the Buffalo Bills and New Orleans Saints.

A management group that has flown under the radar is the Chicago Bears, but the rebuilding squad has really turned things around over the past couple of seasons.

Inheriting an awful team in 2022, Ryan Poles' group has done a great job putting together a treasure chest of assets, finding some quality young players, and winning some big trades.

Ian Cunningham, who is Chicago's assistant GM, has been there every step of the way, as the team now owns the top pick in the 2024 NFL Draft as a byproduct of one of the most lopsided trades in NFL history with the Carolina Panthers, along with their own pick, defensive end Montez Sweat, wide receiver DJ Moore, and a number of other pieces.

Per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Bolts have requested access to Cunningham for an interview:

Chicago's turnaround is more under the radar largely because much of what they've gained throughout their rebuild is unrealized, coming in the form of draft picks in 2024 and beyond, as well as it being invested in younger, talented players that are yet to be unleashed.

Prior to being in Chicago, Cunningham spent time with the Philadelphia Eagles, one of the best run organizations in the league, working in both player personnel and college scouting.

Cunningham is young and has spent time in drastically different situations, providing him with a wealth of interesting experience that could help turn the Bolts around. He could easily be a slam dunk hire, as he was a top candidate last year, too.
