Chargers News: Unpacking Top Prospects For LA At Last Week's NFL Combine

How several top prospects performed at the Combine.

The 2024 NFL Scouting Combine wrapped up this past weekend, giving NFL scouts and teams another look at many of the top prospects.

Key decision makers from your Los Angeles Chargers were of course in attendance, with head coach Jim Harbaugh spotted several times watching the athletes run the 40-yard dash and take part in drills.

The Chargers had to opportunity to get a look at several prospects. With the fifth overall pick, the Chargers have a huge decision to make and the chance to take one of the most talented players in the draft.

Several of the players that have been linked to the Chargers include Malik Nabers, Rome Odunze, Brock Bowers and Joe Alt. So how did these players do at the combine? Let's take a look:

Rome Odunze — WR, Washington

Odunze ran a 4.45 second 40-yard dash and added a 39" vertical and a 10'4" broad jump. Odunze also finished his three cone drill in 6.88 seconds and his 20-yard shuttle in 4.03 seconds. The 6'3" receiver put up a good showing, and continues to be spoken about highly heading into the draft.

Joe Alt — OT, Notre Dame

Alt finished with a 5.05 second 40-yard dash. He also managed a 28" vertical jump and 9'4" broad jump. Alt excelled at the three cone drill, with his 7.31 seconds, which was third among offensive linemen. He was eighth in the 20-yard shuttle at 4.51 seconds. His 27 bench press reps tied for eight among offensive linemen.

Brock Bowers — TE, Georgia

Bowers chose not to participate in drills at the scouting combine.

Malik Nabers — WR, LSU

Nabers also opted out of performing drills at the combine, but instead took part in interviews.

Of these four top players frequently linked to the Chargers, only Odunze and Alt took part in the combine workouts. Both players look good, and neither did anything to hurt their draft stock. This may not have narrowed down who the Chargers should pick, but reaffirms that there are plenty of strong options for the fifth pick.
