Chargers News: Expert Worried About Cowboys' No. 2-Ranked Pass Defense

A rock solid unit.

Your Los Angeles Chargers' next matchup against the Dallas Cowboys pits LA's high-powered offense against one of the strongest defenses in the league.

Dallas' secondary will pose a tough puzzle to solve for Justin Herbert and the rest of the unit thanks in large part to a budding star at cornerback.

CB Daron Bland

I mentioned the prolific pass rushers that the Cowboys have, but they also possess a stud in the secondary that has been a key piece to their No. 2 ranked pass defense. Filling in for Trevon Diggs as the top boundary corner, Bland has excelled in the role. He is tied for the most interceptions (3), two of which came against the Patriots in Week 4. Bland is also currently allowing the lowest passer rating in the NFL (30.7).

Diggs tore his ACL during one one-on-one drills in a practice earlier this season, but Bland's dominance as a boundary corner has been more than an adequate replacement.

Offseason trade piece Stefon Gilmore also lines up on the Cowboys' defensive second level and will hope to cause problems all night long against their former offensive coordinator.

Kellen Moore's system will be put to the test against Dan Quinn's group with plenty of familiarity between the former co-coordinators for Mike McCarthy's staff.

Dallas' defense struggled in their Week 5 blowout loss against the 49ers and revenge will surely be on their minds against one of the elite quarterbacks in the league.

George Kittle and Brandon Aiyuk in particular gashed all three levels of the Cowboys' defense while Micah Parsons got held in check by San Francisco's dominant offensive line.

Brock Purdy showed that America's Team can be exposed through his great showing and Herbert can only hope he does the same to push LA to a winning record.
