NFL Combine: Commanders Interested in Kentucky QB Will Levis?

With Sam Howell being the only quarterback under contract, the Washington Commanders need to address the position during the off-season.

The Washington Commanders appear to be set with Sam Howell under center, though not everyone seems to agree with it.

With the NFL Combine taking place this week, three of the top four quarterbacks will take center stage in Indianapolis. Despite the Commanders’ commitment to Howell, Bleacher Report thinks they should have a keen eye on Kentucky quarterback Will Levis.

“Levis (6'3", 232 pounds) has the kind of sturdy build you'd like to see in a quarterback and the arm strength to match,” Bleacher Report writes. “He played under an NFL offensive coordinator in Liam Coen at Kentucky so he has experience in the kind of offense an NFL team will expect him to absorb.”

Levis started for two seasons at Kentucky. In 2022, Levis threw for 2,406 yards, 19 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. The Wildcats went 7-4 in the regular season.

Levis, C.J. Stroud and Anthony Richardson are all set to throw at the Combine. Bryce Young will only throw at Alabama’s Pro Day.

With the 16th pick, the odds that Levis or Richardson fall to Washington are slim. The Houston Texans, Indianapolis Colts, Las Vegas Raiders and Carolina Panthers are teams who could take a quarterback and pick ahead of the Commanders.

Another wild card is the addition of Eric Bieniemy as the offensive coordinator. Bieniemy played a critical role in the development of Patrick Mahomes during his five years as the Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator.

If there was ever a time when Washington could change their tune about Howell, it could come at the combine where the traits of Levis and other quarterback’s traits could shine.
