Saquon Barkley Shakes Up NFC East, Shuns Giants & Cowboys by Signing with Eagles

The Washington Commanders will continue to see Saquon Barkley twice a year after he signs with the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Washington Commanders were hoping that Saquon Barkley would leave the New York Giants so they wouldn't have to see him twice a year again.

The Commanders got that wish, but it comes with a twist.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Philadelphia Eagles are signing Barkley and keeping him in the NFC East.

Saquon Barkley Kam Curl Giants

The deal is worth $37.75 million for three years with $26 million guaranteed. However, he can earn up to $46.75 million.

Barkley, the No. 2 overall pick by the Giants in the 2018 NFL Draft, spent six seasons with New York, and ran for over 1,000 yards in three of those years. This past season, Barkley didn't quite reach that mark, but he did run for 962 yards and six touchdowns for the Giants.

Barkley will replace D'Andre Swift in Philadelphia's backfield after the latter signed a three-year contract with the Chicago Bears in free agency.

The Cowboys will still be eyeing a replacement for Tony Pollard after he joined the Tennessee Titans on a three-year deal.

While Barkley wasn't in Washington's free agency plans, the Commanders are also in need of a running back after Antonio Gibson signed with the New England Patriots.

Barkley will be able to officially sign his deal when the new league year begins on Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET.
