Cowboys New Contracts for Tyron Smith and Terence Steele?
FRISCO - The Dallas Cowboys have tendered one tackle, Terence Steele, and he's staying. And another tackle, Tyron Smith? They are working on keeping him as well, via negotiations that could cut down his pricy contract.
When team COO Stephen Jones spoke at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis, he was confident about the offensive line returning intact.
After an injury plagued season, veteran Tyron Smith expects to return. And Steele, who started most of the year at right tackle before suffering a torn ACL in December, should be healthy and ready for the start of training camp in July.
The Steele decision: it’ll be a second-round tender, meaning Steele gets $4 million for 2023. (Other teams can now bid Steele. However, the Cowboys can match any offer sheet. In the unlikely event the Cowboys don’t match, they will receive a second-round pick in return.)
The Tyron decision? Smith, 32, missed most of the season with a torn hamstring suffered in August. The Cowboys have said they are "comfortable" with his $13.4 million price tag in 2023 ... but we also know they believe Smith might be willing to slice that dollar figure down.
"Obviously, Tyron is the ultimate team player," Jones said. "It seems like he's very content to do what it takes to help the team."
