FRISCO - Dallas Cowboys star Trevon Diggs is claiming to be "shocked'' by the circumstances that have led to a former landlord suing him for $250,000 over a failure to pay rent and other concerns.

"He thought this matter was completely resolved," Diggs attorney, Scott Becker said. "So to have this situation arise out of the blue was a bit of a shock to him."

Landlord Rose Marie Yadegar, according to WFAA, filed the lawsuit in Denton County in December 2022. Yadegar alleges that Diggs paid the $5,500 rent payment on time only in the first month of the lease and later vacated the property (located in Frisco and valued at about $800,000) when she threatened to have him evicted.

Yadegar's claim cites Diggs for owing unpaid rent, plus $4,000 for repairs and deep claiming and $2,500 in legal costs.

Becker at one point reportedly filed a response denying Yadegar's claims and demanding proof. But via WFAA, he is now claiming that the dispute originates from "some misunderstanding or miscommunication.

The attorney is putting the blame on some friends of Diggs who, he asserts, have taken advantage of the standout cornerback - though that does not explain why the Cowboys player failed to pay his rent month after month.

"We certainly feel badly for her if that's the case that there's damage to the property," Becker said, pledging that Diggs will "work it out.''

"My client didn't cause that damage,'' Becker said, "and we look forward to working it out with her ... You become a target for things, and that may be happening here."

Yadegar indicated that Diggs - who is playing under the terms of a four-year, $6.3 million contract - was well-aware of the issue, but that her attempts to collect

"It's been a very stressful situation and I don't understand," Yadegar said to WFAA. "Why put a homeowner through this much hell when you know you have signed an agreement and you have to stay committed?"
