Did Cowboys Attempt to Re-Sign Pollard Before Titans Contract?

Running back Tony Pollard left for the Tennessee Titans ... but not without one last push from the Dallas Cowboys.

The Dallas Cowboys lost one of their premiere offensive weapons Monday - but not without putting up a fight.

Running back Tony Pollard signed a three-year, $24 million contract with the Tennessee Titans, ending his five-year stint in The Star.

However, the Cowboys tried to bring back Pollard, as The Athletic reported Dallas was "in on" the 26-year-old ball-carrier until the end.

The New York Giants and Minnesota Vikings were also interested.

The deciding factor for Pollard was money, as The Athletic said he took the larger payday - a switch from last week's report that Pollard was willing to take a pay cut to stay in the Lone Star State.

Instead, Pollard ventures to Nashville, where he'll attempt to fill the Derrick Henry-sized void in the backfield.

Pollard rushed for over 1,000 yards each of the past two years, collecting 15 scores on the ground. He started all 17 games for the Cowboys this season and made 55 receptions, third-most on the team.

Dallas has begun setting its sights elsewhere on the running back market, as owner Jerry Jones and staff have been linked to Henry and former New York Giants star Saquon Barkley, should their prices drop.

The Cowboys also have a decision to make on retaining running back Rico Dowdle - he and Pollard were the final two healthy ball carriers listed on Dallas' active roster entering the start of free agency.

The pursuit of Pollard fell short. The Cowboys are now left pondering what's next in the backfield - but there's still no shortage of options for America's team.
