Clamoring for Raiders to Draft a Quarterback Continues

The Las Vegas Raiders have the No. 13 pick in the NFL Draft. With an already talented roster in place, many feel the Raiders should trade up for a quarterback.

The Las Vegas Raiders finished this season with an improved defense and will have many of those same players returning next season.

Their offense, however, struggled for much of this season for various reasons. Those reasons spanned from poor offensive play-calling to poor execution on the field.

Another reason the Raiders struggled on offense, especially in the first half of the season, was the subpar play of their group of quarterbacks.

While they were all the victims of situations outside their control, the Raiders could use additional help at their quarterback position as they head into next season.

Rookie quarterback Aidan O'Connell played admirably after being named the starting quarterback halfway through the season. O'Connell has earned the right to compete for the starting position.

However, many believe the Raiders should either bring in a veteran quarterback via free agency or use the NFL Draft to add another quarterback to compete with O'Connell in new Offensive Coordinator Luke Getsy's offense.

"I've heard nothing but tremendous things about Getsy," former quarterback Dan Orlovsky said. "I've sat with him, and I was impressed with him. Just [in] my time with him, he really understood their offense. He had a really good connection with trying to tie formations and run game and pass concepts together.

"You've got to go jump [in the NFL Draft] if you're Las Vegas. You've got a good, talented defense. I think Coach Antonio Pierce is going to have that group playing incredibly tough. You've got to get a quarterback, or you have no shot in that division."

Orlovsky, like others, believes the Raiders should trade up in the NFL Draft to select their quarterback of the future. Orlovsky points to the other quarterbacks in the AFC West as to why the Raiders should upgrade their quarterback position.

"You have no shot if you don't get a guy, I'm talking about a freakazoid because Justin [Herbert] is going to play awesome. We know the Chiefs have Patrick [Mahomes]," Orlovsky said.

The Kansas City Chiefs have won the AFC West every season since Mahomes became their quarterback, and the Chargers quickly turned around their fortunes after drafting Herbert.

The Raiders could jump into playoff contention with only a few additions to their team. The calls for that addition to the quarterback position via the draft continue to grow.
