The Las Vegas Raiders made quite the splash landing defensive tackle Christian Wilkins on Monday, a move that significantly furthers their mission to make their presence felt in the AFC West.

Wilkins will bring the grit and infuriating nature that the Raiders want to bother teams like the Kansas City Chiefs, whose flaws are difficult to expose.

Peter Schrager, co-host of "Good Morning Football" on the NFL Network, explained exactly why Wilkins' addition means so much to the Raiders, especially.

"(Coach) Antonio Pierce made headlines over the last few weeks talking about 'the Mahomes Rules' and how we've got to treat Patrick Mahomes differently than other quarterbacks, and Maxx Crosby has a motor that never stops -- so does Christian Wilkins," Schrager said. "And he's an antagonist, which is such the Raider way. Christian Wilkins is a beloved teammate, he's one of the most hated players on the field because of the extra-curriculars and because he just never stops doing stuff.

" ... Players do not like going up against Christian Wilkins. That is very in line with Antonio Pierce saying: 'We're going to be just a gnat, we're going to be annoying to you, you're not going to want to face us.' Look, the AFC West is loaded because of the Chiefs, it's loaded because of Jim Harbaugh, and Sean Payton's team's going to come up. The Raiders made a major statement yesterday."

Schrager also went into the importance of another key member of the Raiders' defensive line, Tyree Wilson, who will enter his second season.

"(He has a) 90-inch wing span, a mulligan on his rookie year, did nothing, you didn't hear anything from him, but he's coming too," Schrager said. "So, I think they have a very, very good thing in place here, at least on the defensive line."

The NFL Draft will be held in Detroit, Mich., on April 25-27, 2024. The Las Vegas Raiders currently have the No. 13 overall pick.
