Ravens Training Camp: Who's QB Lamar Jackson’s No. 1 Receiver?

With plenty of options suddenly, we’re about to find out if Odell Beckham Jr., Rashod Bateman, or Zay Flowers will become quarterback Lamar Jackson’s favorite target.

Baltimore Ravens training camp is about to get started, which means quarterback Lamar Jackson will soon figure out something very important about his set of weapons. With a suddenly full stock of receivers to throw to the newly re-signed quarterback ... who's No. 1?

And that’s the biggest subplot to track according to NFL.com’s preview of Baltimore’s upcoming training camp session.

“The options are plentiful,” says NFL.com. “There’s the newly signed Odell Beckham, 2021 first-rounder Rashod Bateman, plus the team’s Round 1 selection this year, Zay Flowers.”

As the NFL Media site points out as well, clearly Beckham is the big name on campus and the early favorite to be that guy. In fact, there’s some history to suggest that if he isn’t, relationships in the Ravens locker room may sour.

Bateman has an advantage nobody else does, however, with his one season of experience playing with Jackson already.

“He and Jackson made some fireworks early before the receiver’s season was marred by drops and a foot injury,” NFL.com says of the duo.

If the second-year receiver is healthy and can shake off some of the functional mistakes he made in his rookie season, then this pairing certainly holds potential. And then there’s the rookie Flowers who brings excitement and sky-high promise.

Regardless of who the No. 1 truly is on the depth chart - and OBJ is the logical choice there - Jackson is undoubtedly going to have his favorite that he turns to when Baltimore needs big plays in big situations. Who that player becomes will help get the Ravens closer to the top of the AFC as they get back into the chase to catch and surpass the Kansas City Chiefs.
