Seahawks Draft Blockbuster: Could Raiders Trade Up With Seattle for QB Anthony Richardson?

While the Seattle Seahawks could draft a quarterback at No. 5, this trade proposal sees them move back in the top 10.

After making the playoffs in their first year without Russell Wilson, the Seattle Seahawks find themselves in an interesting position with the upcoming NFL draft.

With a roster that is not filled with several glaring holes, and two-first round picks to work with, the Seahawks are in a position to go several routes with those two picks to continue building their roster.

One scenario that has been discussed is taking a quarterback like Anthony Richardson at No. 5 to sit behind Geno Smith, and then take over in the future.

However, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler pitched a different scenario.

“There’s a little bit of buzz about Seattle and Richardson," Fowler said. "Now, the scouts I talked to, they sort of believe it, but they also wonder if Seattle’s trying to trade back out of that spot."

"Drum up some interest for Richardson to have a quarterback-needy team step up and try to get him."

While the Seahawks could view Smith as a potential bridge quarterback, that doesn't mean they value any of the quarterbacks that could be available at No. 5 overall enough to draft them.

Of course, if the Seahawks did trade back, they wouldn't want to drop too far. Rather, Fowler believes they'd stay in the top 10.

"You look at the Raiders at No. 7. I’ve talked to a few teams that are watching the Raiders there," Fowler said. "They believe that with Jimmy Garoppolo as sort of a bridge quarterback for at least a year."

"They’re in the perfect spot to get their future passer for a guy like Richardson, who is probably the most talented quarterback in this draft.”

In that scenario, a trade back to No. 7 with the Las Vegas Raiders is a proposal that could work for both teams. The Raiders would get their next franchise quarterback to learn under Jimmy Garoppolo, while the Seahawks don't plummet in the draft order and get some extra draft capital to work with.

Ultimately, the Seahawks are in the perfect position with the No. 5 pick. They can either draft their next quarterback for life after Smith, or trade back a couple spots and still land a premier prospect to add to their young core.
