Oddsmakers Have Low Expectations for Steelers QB Kenny Pickett

There are some questionable names with better season outlooks than Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett.

PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers will head into their second season with Kenny Pickett as their starting quarterback, but even if the hopes are high within the organization, the sophomore passer is still being overlooked by those around the league.

Heading into free agency, BetOnline.ag released their odds for the 2023 NFL MVP. Pickett made the list, but he's 20th, currently sitting with 40/1 odds to take home the league's highest honor.

Now, that seems normal for a second-year quarterback, right? Well, the players ahead of him feature other second-year players, along with players who don't currently have a team, and some that are being questioned about whether or not their team will replace them.

Some noticeable names listed ahead of, or even with, Pickett in odds include:

  • Tua Tagovailoa 14/1
  • Brock Purdy 25/1
  • Deshaun Watson 25/1
  • Trey Lance 33/1
  • Daniel Jones 40/1
  • Jared Goff 40/1

Pickett is ahead of some notable starters like Kyler Murray (50/1) and Kirk Cousins (50/1), but to say oddsmakers have much faith in the Steelers quarterback is really an accurate statement.

While other teams will upgrade their offense during the offseason, possibly increasing their quarterback's MVP odds, Pittsburgh is expected to stay pretty neutral offensively. If anything, Pickett could have a new lineman at left guard or left tackle, but don't expect any flashy receiver or tight end additions.

With the lack of change, Pickett's MVP odds will likely stay the same throughout the offseason, and if anything, could dip before players actually take the field this summer.
