Steelers Named Landing Spot for Two Top 50 Free Agents

The Pittsburgh Steelers get their hands on two big names in free agency.

PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers are amongst many teams who will be searching the market for defying talent in free agency. With many question marks on both sides of the ball, there won't be a shortage of possible signings, and this team is expected to land at least two big-name players.

Pro Football Focus recently ranked their top 50 free agents and predicted where those players will land. Amongst those top 50, the Steelers are expected to sign at least two, one in the defensive backfield and another at linebacker.

For starters, PFF predicts the Steelers lose Cam Sutton to the Minnesota Vikings, which is becoming a trend amongst analysts. With Brian Flores headed west, it makes sense that they'd be in the market for Sutton, and could offer him a deal he can't refuse.

To replace Sutton, PFF expects the Steelers to sign former Las Vegas Raiders cornerback Rock Ya-Sin.

"With Cameron Sutton hypothetically departing in this article, we have a new top cornerback headed to Pittsburgh in the younger Rock Ya-Sin," PFF writes. "The former second-round pick of the Indianapolis Colts earned a 74.4 coverage grade lined up out wide over the past two seasons, which ranks 24th, and he allowed an explosive reception on just 0.9% of coverage snaps, which was the top mark across the entire NFL."

Ya-Sin has been predicted to the Steelers twice now, with the first coming from ESPN. Pittsburgh did have eyes on the Temple product coming into the NFL, and with a similar play-style as Sutton, it could work as a simple replacement.

The second free agent PFF predicts the Steelers sign is former Philadelphia Eagles inside linebacker T.J. Edwards.

"The Steelers signed cap casualty linebacker Myles Jack to a two-year, $16 million deal last offseason, and it’s at least a possibility he finds himself in the same situation this offseason since he’s owed an $8 million salary in 2023. Even if he sticks around, Devin Bush and Robert Spillane are pending free agents, and Edwards could be a multi-year solution beyond 2023," PFF writes. "While Pittsburgh does not traditionally spend much in free agency, they have departed a bit from that stance in recent offseasons, notably signing guard James Daniels, among others, last offseason. The price would have to be right here with Edwards coming off a very strong 2022 campaign, during which he posted career highs with 54 defensive stops, 11 quarterback pressures and eight pass breakups."

The Steelers are heading into free agency with just Myles Jack and Mark Robinson at inside linebacker. Some expect them to look at the NFL Draft for their next starter, but finding a veteran on the open market could make sense for a defense who's already found success at most other positions.

With the NFL Combine about to kick off and free agency around the corner, things are about to become very real for the Steelers, and these names could begin floating around the team more and more as days pass.
