Steelers Get Positive Update on LB Cole Holcomb
The Pittsburgh Steelers got a favorable checkup on their starting inside linebacker.
ORLANDO -- The Pittsburgh Steelers got a "favorable checkup" on inside linebacker Cole Holcomb, head coach Mike Tomlin confirmed during his media session at the NFL Meetings. The insider linebacker continues to rehab after ACL surgery and appears to be headed in the right direction as they approach OTAs and mini camp.
Holcomb went down while trying to tackle Tennessee Titans wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins in Week 9 of the 2023 season. He underwent ACL surgery a few days later and has since been recovering and rehabbing in hopes of returning in 2024.
"He just had a checkup a few weeks back and it was a favorable one, but I don’t have any details about calendar from a calendar perspective or levels of availability and when I still think we are decent ways out and I’d be speculating," Tomlin said.
The Steelers recently signed former Baltimore Raven Patrick Queen, adding the 24-year-old to a group of Holcomb, Elandon Roberts and Mark Robinson. The hope for Pittsburgh is that Holcomb returns in time for the season, allowing them to roll out he, Queen and Roberts as the rotating starters.
Prior to his injury, Holcomb recorded 54 tackles, four tackles for loss, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and two passes defensed. He'll turn 28 years old during the 2024 season and has two years left on his current contract.
