Steelers Sign Former Bills QB Kyle Allen

The Pittsburgh Steelers have added a third quarterback to their roster.

ORLANDO -- The Pittsburgh Steelers have added another quarterback to their roster, agreeing to terms with free agent Kyle Allen, general manager Omar Khan informed All Steelers.

Allen, 28, spent last season with the Buffalo Bills, playing in seven games. Prior to Buffalo, he spent a season with the Houston Texans, two years with Washington and two years with the Carolina Panthers. He's started 19 games in his NFL career, completing 62% of his passes for 4,734 yards and 26 touchdowns to 21 interceptions.

His longest stretch as a starter came in his second NFL season, playing 12 games as the Panthers QB1 and throwing for 3,322 yards and 17 touchdowns to 16 interceptions. He went 5-7 as the starter.

The Steelers typically bring three quarterbacks into the season and have been searching for a third after signing Russell Wilson and trading for Justin Fields. After the departure of Kenny Pickett, the team needed their QB3, which will now be filled by Allen.

While the move doesn't rule out another quarterback competing for the final roster spot, Pittsburgh will likely be comfortable keeping their third quarterback as a veteran with starting experience.
