WATCH: Texans Coach DeMeco Ryans Excited Coming 'Home'

New Houston Texans coach DeMeco Ryans took to social media to express his excitement.

HOUSTON — It's an understatement to describe DeMeco Ryans as happy becoming the new coach of the Houston Texans. The former San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator took to social media to express his exhilaration.

"H-Town, I’m back,” Ryans said. “It’s good to be home. Go Texans!"

Ryans became the Texans' top candidate after a "lengthy and very positive" interview on Jan. 20. A source subsequently told TexansDaily.com that "players have expressed excitement over DeMeco."

In a statement released by the franchise, Ryans called becoming the coach of the Texans his "dream job."

"I have been around the game of football my entire life and I've always had a natural ability to lead others," Ryans said. "I know what it takes to win and be successful in this league as both a player and coach.

"I understand the responsibility I have to this organization and to the fans of Houston to build a winner, and I can't wait to get to work."

Ryans is the third coach the Texans have hired since the firing of Bill O'Brien in October 2020. Ryans, who signed a six-year deal to replace Lovie Smith, began his NFL as a second-round pick of the Texans in 2006 and spent six years with the franchise.
