NY Rangers Could Have a Completely Different Identity Following Retool

The New York Rangers might have a different identity following a plethora of moves this summer.

As the New York Rangers get set for the upcoming season, the team will have a much different-looking roster. However, following one of the worst years in the history of the franchise, that is a good thing. 

The Rangers got off to a bad start to the season, and things snowballed for them last year right into a last-place finish in the Eastern Conference. New York was really bad at home last year, and there was no shortage of concern about what the path forward for the team was going to be. 

There was some debate on what the direction for the team should be coming into the summer, with some believing that it was time to tear it down and rebuild. However, the Rangers and Chris Drury elected to go with a retool, and they had a strong summer. 

New York was able to make a lot of changes for the better, and the team will have more talent than they did last year. Furthermore, with all of the new faces, it will be a new identity for the squad. 

Rangers Will Have a New Identity

With a plethora of changes being made this summer, New York is going to be an interesting team to watch. Last year, they were a team that had a lot of areas of weakness, as expected with the poor record. 

During the summer, the upgrades the team made were to fix these problems, and the team seemingly did a good job. Up front, two of the notable additions were Pavel Dorofeyev and Oliver Bjorkstrand. 

These two could be top-six players for New York, and Dorofeyev is going to have some high expectations coming off a 37-goal season with the Vegas Golden Knights. 

Furthermore, the additions to their blueline with Sean Durzi and Marcus Pettersson could prove to be the most impactful. These two will completely revamp the second pair, which was not good last year. 

When looking at what the identity of the team will be this coming season, it could appear like being a strong defensive team will be the most logical thing. The blueline has been completely revamped, and the debut of fifth overall pick Alberts Smits could make this unit even better. 

Overall, the additions up front in Dorofeyev and Bjorkstrand should help the offense improve, but this does appear to be a team that will have their blueline be their identity.
