Stars HC Sets Record in Game 7 Victory

The Dallas Stars believe they have the best head coach in the NHL, and following their latest Game 7 victory, they have an excellent argument. With an epic comeback victory, they eliminated their Central Division rivals, the Colorado Avalanche, and their coach set a new NHL record.
Stars HC Peter DeBoer holds the record for most Game 7 victories by a Head Coach or Manager in North American sports history. With the win over the Avalanche, DeBoer captured his ninth Game 7 victory. To make things even more impressive, DeBoer has gone a perfect 9-0 in his career in Game 7s. The NHL Coaches' Association shared the impressive feat via their X account.

DeBoer has already established himself as a premier coach in the NHL, but this latest record takes it to a new level. To win that many winner-take-all contests is an impressive enough feat. To have an unblemished 9-0 record in Game 7 acknowledges his greatness.
What is most impressive about DeBoer is how seamlessly he adjusts. He adapts on the fly, and as a result, his team can too. Whether it's swapping a forward in the third period, changing his defensive pairings, restricting minutes, or any other coaching tactics, DeBoer knows when to pull the right strings, and his players trust that.
The Stars were the perfect example of that in Game 7 against the Avalanche. Despite trailing 2-0 early in the third period, there was never a sense of panic on the Dallas bench. Instead, they pushed harder, drew multiple penalties, stole the momentum, and scored four unanswered goals to win the game and series.
The question now is, can DeBoer take this clutch factor and turn it into a Stanley Cup for Dallas? He's routinely guided his teams to conference finals and multiple Stanley Cup Finals, but he's never been able to lift the Stanley Cup. If he can get his team to force a Game 7 in one of those series, however, his poor fortunes late in the playoffs may change.
