Jose Iglesias will miss most of the season with a shin injury, according to "another player that is close to him," ESPN's Jim Bowden reported on Saturday.

As a result, speculation is that the Tigers will pursue free agent shortstop Stephen Drew, Bowden reports.

Iglesias, who has only four career home runs, hit .330 in 63 games for Boston before he was traded to Detroit. He hit .259 in 46 games for the Tigers, and .231 in 11 postseason games.

The 24-year-old is regarded as one of the game's top defensive shortstops.

Drew, 30, hit 13 home runs last season for the Red Sox, with another three in the playoffs.
