Rays to activate Ben Zobrist off disabled list following left thumb dislocation

The Rays will activate second baseman Ben Zobrist off the disabled list on Friday, before the start of their weekend set against the Red Sox at Fenway Park, according to Bill Chastain of MLB.com.

The two-time All-Star is hitting .260 with three home runs, nine RBIs and a .716 OPS in 40 games this season. He was injured sliding into second base on a steal attempt.

Cole Figueroa was optioned to Triple-A Durham to make room for Zobrist on the 25-man roster.

Zobrist has played his entire nine-year career with the Rays, hitting 107 home runs with 468 RBIs.

Tampa Bay (23-31) is off on Thursday and is currently in last place in the AL East, nine games behind Toronto.
