Indiana Fever Big 3 Dominate New York Liberty: Takeaways

The Indiana Fever's star trio proved too much for the New York Liberty.

Prior to taking on the New York Liberty on Tuesday, Indiana Fever coach Stephanie White proclaimed that she always has her team's back. That coming after White faced criticism for comments she made in defense on Chicago Sky guard DiJonai Carrington, following Carrington's flagrant foul of Sophie Cunningham.

White has now called that foul "egregious," in saying she didn't see the replay initially. She then lamented that her team is never able to relish in the great basketball they've been playing of late. Well, that great basketball continued against the Liberty—powered by the Fever's Big 3.

The Fever's electrifying backcourt duo of Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell outscored the Liberty starters by themselves in the first half, combining for 38 points at the break.

Mitchell registered her 17th consecutive game scoring 20 or more points, finishing with 28 points on 11-16 shooting. Clark scored 22 points and dished out 10 assists. She is on pace to become the only player in WNBA history to average 20 or more points and 8 or more assists in a season.

The star guards got plenty of help from the team's third All-Star, center Aliyah Boston. Boston continues to flex her increased range, as she has gone from a non-shooter her entire career, to an elite three-point shooter this season. Boston scored 19 points, hitting 3-of-5 from deep. She added 7 rebounds and 4 assists.

Cunningham Provides Punch Off Bench

After being on the receiving end of the oft-discussed flagrant from Carrington and struggling in her last two games, Cunningham got back to doing what she has all year, providing punch off the bench for the Fever.

She had 12 points in 22 minutes, knocking down 4-of-5 from three-point range. Monique Billings also contributed 14 points off the bench.

Starting Timpson Continues to Work Out

Billings had been starting for much of the season, but the Fever made the switch to Makayla Timpson against the Sky on Saturday. So far it has paid dividends.

Timpson's athleticism has helped Indiana's weak-side defense and rebounding. She also runs the floor well in Indiana's face-paced offense. And Timpson had a +10.8 Net Rating on the year coming into the game.

The lineup change has also allowed Billings to move into her more natural position at center, providing needed backup for Boston.

The Fever's potent offense, which is the best in league history to this point, once again went over 100 points in the 106-92 win. They'll now look to make it three in a row against the Dallas Wings on Friday.
