There's a lot of anticipation in Baton Rouge this week, with just six days until the Tigers return to the notorious stage of Death Valley to face Clemson.

It's not just going to be another Saturday night in Death Valley; there are more stakes this season. It's all about the debut of the renovated program that Lane Kiffin built up this offseason.

He stepped into the controversial role with high expectations for what LSU could turn into under him, and now fans finally get to see the final product and how Kiffin works under standards he's never been held to before.

Not Another Takeover

Kiffin is on his fourth SEC program in his career now that he's calling plays in Baton Rouge. But his career wasn't always about the exciting scene of the South; he is a well-known program rebuilder all over the country.

The past decade of his career has been spent doing much-needed renovations to both Ole Miss and Florida Atlantic University, making them the well-known programs they are known as today.

Coming in, the programs were the underdogs in their conference, with minimal national pressure or attention. Kiffin's arrival was exciting, but also set an invisible ceiling on his expectations for his hire.

Which is not the case at LSU. Last season's unfortunate run led to the Tigers finishing 7-5 and leaving an empty head-coaching spot, but the program was still one of the most talked-about teams in the country, even before the speculation of Kiffin taking over.

And once he did, the expectations to bring success to the program skyrocketed, with everyone hopping on the Lane Train to fuel the excitement.

In recent years, LSU might not have been an SEC champion or featured in all of the college football playoffs, but it was still producing Heisman Trophy winners and becoming a feared opponent in the conference.

A New Standard

Kiffin's hire put LSU up on the board for immediate success, not another slow buildup that Kiffin's resumé is loaded with.

This was clear this offseason, with him signing over 40 new players from the portal during the open window this winter, transforming the roster to bring a new team to Tiger Stadium.

Now that the season is about to kick off, his expectations of high success will carry through the fall and the postseason, with little room for error for the experienced leader.

There's minimal room for losses this season, not just because of the talent on the roster, but also because the Tigers are now led by one of the most powerful names in college football.
