It was a high-scoring affair against the Samford Bulldogs, but the Alabama Crimson Tide won the midweek contest 13-6.

"Really good work for our club," head coach Brad Bohannon said after the game. "I thought we played well. The at-bats were good. We hit some balls hard in the first three innings, we just didn't have anything to show for it."

Both teams were held scoreless in the first three innings, then Alabama got on the board with an RBI single from Drew Williamson. Dom Tamez added another run by hitting a sacrifice fly, driving in Seidl.

After Ed Johnson hit a solo home run in the following inning, the Tide was up 3-0 after five frames.

The lead was short-lived, however, as Braylen Myers gave up back-to-back home runs and the Bulldogs tied the game. With the score 3-3 heading into the bottom of the 6th, Colby Shelton stepped up to the plate and smashed a three-run shot over the right field wall.

Not only did that give Alabama the lead, but Shelton also broke the record for most home runs by a freshman.

"It's a pretty cool accomplishment," Shelton said. "Not everyone gets to do something like that. I'm just happy to help the team win."

Samford continued to hang tough as the Bulldogs score three runs in the next two innings, but Alabama capped it off with a 5-run 8th inning, ending with a Seidl home run to center field.

With the win, Alabama improved to 30-12, reaching the win total in the shortest time since 2006. The Tide will need the momentum as it prepares for two of the tougher teams in the SEC - LSU and Vanderbilt.

The first game against LSU will be this Friday, April 28 in Baton Rouge, La. The first pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT.
