The Alabama Soccer team opened conference play with a 1-0 loss to Arkansas on the road.

Anna Podojil scored the lone goal of the contest in the 6th minute to give the Razorbacks the result.

Alabama had spells where its attack looked promising, but could not find the final pass in the opposing third. The Crimson Tide finished the first half with a dominant showing, pinning the Arkansas team deep into its own half, but the Crimson Tide failed to capitalize.

I am incredibly proud of our effort and quality today,” Crimson Tide coach Wes Hart said. “We created some great opportunities, but just could not find the back of the net.

"We held a very potent Arkansas attack to just one shot on goal, but unfortunately for us, they made the most of it. Thankfully, we’ve got another great opportunity in a few days when we host a very good South Carolina team.”

Alabama outshot the Razorbacks 22-5 on the afternoon, but only places six of those attempts on target. Junior Casey Wertz and Freshman Carlee Giammona led the Crimson Tide with five and three shots, respectively. The Crimson Tide also held a 12-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Alabama will host South Carolina in the Crimson Tide’s home SEC debut on Thursday, Sept. 26 before traveling to face Tennessee on Sunday Sept. 29.
