• Alabama swimming and diving sophomore Kensey McMahon has been named to the United States National Team. McMahon earned her spot during the USA Summer National Championships, where she took second in the 1,500-meter freestyle with a career-best 16:09.80, which ranks her in the top-16 in the world this year.

• The 2018 vault silver medalist Shallon Olson, an Alabama sophomore, is going back to the World Championships with Team Canada:

• Nick Saban on the weekly SEC coaches’ teleconference with reporters: “When we were kids, we all had Etch A Sketch. You know what that is? Maybe some of you guys don’t. Unless you do it on your phone or something on the Internet, you probably can’t do it. But when I grew up, you could draw on this thing and then you pull the tab up and it goes blank so you can draw something else. Well, we can’t operate that way. I mean, if we go Etch A Sketch with a player, that means he didn’t remember anything from camp, he didn’t remember anything from last week and we’re starting all over –we’re in trouble. But it’s not that they don’t know, it’s the ability to stay focused, and that’s going to be a challenge for us and something that we need to continue to work on.”

• The 2019-20 Alabama women's basketball schedule was set with the league announcing the conference matchups. The Crimson Tide will play a single game with 10 teams and a home-and-away with Auburn, Alabama's permanent opponent, and two rotating opponents that change annually. This year’s rotating teams include Texas A&M and Kentucky.

• Veteran official and rules analyst Gene Steratore has been added to the broadcast team for the "SEC on CBS" broadcasts this fall. Steratore, a former football and basketball official, also provides analysis for "NFL on CBS" games and the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship. The CBS broadcast schedule begin Sept. 14 with Alabama at South Carolina.

• Crimson Tide commitment Michaela Morard named the girls’ player of the year, with Jones Free, JP Cave and Alabama freshman Thomas Ponder named to all-state teams by the Alabama Golf Association.

• The latest, and, we think, last episode this season of Bama Cuts:

On this date in Crimson Tide history:

September 5, 1981: Alabama opens the Year of 315 (as in Paul W. “Bear” Bryant going for the career wins record) with a 24-7 victory at LSU. Quarterback Ken Coley directed the Crimson Tide wishbone in the rout on national television. – Bryant Museum

Crimson Tide quote of the day:

“I love football. I really love football. As far as I’m concerned, it’s the second-best thing in the world.” – Joe Namath
