Former Alabama baseball All-American Andy Phillips joined "The Joe Gaither Show on BamaCentral" on Friday.

Phillips gave his thoughts on the Alabama Crimson Tide baseball season and gave credit to the resilience the players and coaching staff have shown to get to this point in the season.

Alabama is set to host its first regional round in 17 years this weekend, and Phillips is hopeful that the program can utilize the momentum it has built to sustain long term success going forward.

The Demopolis, Alabama native is one of two Crimson Tide players to play at the College World Series three different times in their career. He told the audience what makes Omaha such a special place to play baseball.

The 1997 Crimson Tide baseball team made it all the way to the championship game before being upset by the LSU Tigers. Phillips took the listeners inside that tournament run and the feelings that stick with him today.

Phillips was drafted in 1999 but it wasn't until 2004 that he made his major league debut.

What did Alex Rodriguez tell Phillips before his first big league at-bat?

Check out the episode to find out what happened as Phillips became just the 21st MLB player to hit a home run on his first pitch and the embarrassing moments that subsequently followed.
