Former Alabama Crimson Tide defensive tackle, and current New York Jet, Quinnen Williams had his best NFL season at the perfect time.

Last fall for Gang Green he started in 16 of 17 games, amassing 55 total tackles with 12 for a loss, including 12 sacks and 28 quarterback hits. Additionally he forced two fumbles and recovered another on his way to being named to the first First Team All-Pro selection of his career.

Williams is now entering the final year of his rookie contract after the Jets picked up his fifth-year option last summer. However, it's important to Williams, and the Jets, to get a contract extension agreed upon before the upcoming season begins.

"I speak for everyone, I probably speak for Quinnen, in that we all want it to get done, sooner rather than later," said New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh before practice on Tuesday.

"Again, I'll let the business guys handle all that stuff but it's gonna get done. He'll be here for camp, he'll be ready to roll, and once he is, I'm sure he'll be the same guy he was a year ago."

The media compared Williams to other defensive tackles who have recently received major contract extensions.

The Buffalo Bills just gave Ed Oliver a 4-year contract worth $68 million.

The New York Giants recently agreed to terms with Dexter Lawrence on a 4-year contract worth $90 million.

Lastly, the Tennessee Titans gave Jeffery Simmons a 4-year deal worth $94 million.

Williams is certainly in the same class as Oliver, Lawrence and Simmons, it will be up to his agent, Nicole Lynn, to secure the bag for the Birmingham native.
