Report: Crimson Tide Product Xavier McKinney Signing Lucrative Four-Year Deal with Packers

Former New York Giants safety Xavier McKinney joins running back Josh Jacobs as the second free agent with Crimson Tide roots to sign with Green Bay on Monday.

Former Alabama standout safety Xavier McKinney is signing with the Green Bay Packers, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.

"More Packers moves: Free-agent safety Xavier McKinney is signing a four-year, $68 million deal - a $17M per year average - with the Green Bay Packers," Schefter writes. "Agent David Mulugheta confirmed the deal."

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport said that McKinney will make $25 million in his first season with Green Bay.

McKinney has spent each of his four seasons with the New York Giants, as they selected him with the 36th overall pick of the 2020 NFL Draft. New York didn't want to bring him back after his rookie contract expired.

The 26-year-old was the anchor of the Giants' defense practically since he was assigned the green dot back in 2021. The same goes for this past season, as he's second on the team in tackles (116) and tied for the lead in pass breakups (11) while also recording a team-high three interceptions and adding a forced fumble and two recoveries.

McKinney joins running back Josh Jacobs as the second free agent from the Crimson Tide to sign with Green Bay on Monday. That said, they are the first two Alabama products on the Packers ahead of next season.

The Giants have struggled for the most part of McKinney's tenure and now he gets a fresh start on the youngest team in the league. Green Bay made it to the Divisional round of this past season's playoffs. and has an extremely promising future ahead.

McKinney started at Alabama in the 2018 and 2019 seasons. In those 28 games, he recorded 169 tackles, including 11.5 for loss, 15 pass breakups, six sacks and forced fumbles, five interceptions and two touchdowns.
