Alabama Leads All Teams With 3 First-Team All-Americans by AP
The Alabama Crimson Tide led all teams with three first-team selections, all on the defensive side, as the Associated Press All-America team was announced Monday.
Cornerbacks Kool-Aid McKinstry and Terrion Arnold and linebacker Dallas Turner were all named to the first-team, which featured nine players from the Southeastern Conference.
JC Latham, Alabama's only offensive players listed, was a second-team selection, along with freshman safety Caleb Downs. Kicker Will Reichard was a third-team selection.
Downs was only one of two first-year players to be honored, the other being Purdue safety Dillon Thieneman on the third team.
The AP is one of five services the NCAA uses to determine consensus and unanimous status for All-Americans, along with the Football Writers Association of America, American Football Coaches Association, Walter Camp Foundation and The Sporting News.
Turner was a first-team pick by the FWAA, and needs to also be selected by either the AFCA or The Sporting News to lock down consensus status. Those two organizations will announce their selections later this week.
