Nick Saban Named Finalist for George Munger Award

Saban is one of five finalists for the award given to college football's coach of the year.

Alabama head coach Nick Saban was selected as a finalist for the George Munger Coach of the Year Award, the Maxwell Football Club announced Wednesday.

Saban is one of five finalists, including David Braun (Northwestern), Kalen DeBoer (Washington), Mike Norvell (Florida State) and Steve Sarkisian (Texas).

The winner will be announced on Jan. 10. The Crimson Tide has had two winners of the George Munger Award — Gene Stallings in 1992, followed by Saban in 2016.

Saban led Alabama to the College Football Playoff, where the Crimson Tide lost to No. 1 Michigan on Monday in Pasadena. Alabama won the SEC over Georgia on Dec. 2.

"Obviously, we're very disappointed about the outcome of the game," Saban said after the loss on Monday. "I don't think we played great in the first half, but I was really, really proud of the way our players played in the second half. We just didn't finish the last four minutes of the game like we would like to, and we're all very disappointed, and the players are disappointed, as well."

"But one thing that I told them in the locker room after the game, this is one of the most amazing seasons in Alabama football history in terms of where this team came from, what they were able to accomplish and what they were able to do, winning the SEC Championship, and really, really proud of this group."

As of now, Saban is set to lead the Crimson Tide for his 18th season in 2024-25.
