Pro style offenses have changed over years and it's not what lot of fans think

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Did you watch the Super Bowl? Well, 113 million people certainly did. Arkansas offensive line coach Cody Kennedy likened the new scheme under offensive coordinator Dan Enos to the Eagles and Chiefs and Super Bowl 57.

“The formations have changed drastically when utilizing two tight ends,” Kennedy said. “You had the Chiefs and the Eagles, if that’s pro style, then yes (we are going pro style). Pro style has shifted along the years. It’s really enjoyable for our guys to turn on NFL tape and be like ‘that’s so and so protection.’”

Whether the Razorbacks have the personnel to implement major changes remains to be seen, but both the coaches and the players remain optimistic that the challenges in practice will pay off long term.

“We’ve got to make the conscious effort every play to finish,” Kennedy said. “We’ve got to clean that up. Those are some of the goals for scrimmage two.

The veterans are also confident that the relationships built now will pay off in the future. The group looks to improve on a 2022 campaign, where the Hogs allowed 2.38 sacks per game. Arkansas ranked outside the top 10 for the first time in the Pittman era.

“O-Line is a special unit,” senior Brady Latham said. “We’ve all become friends. We eat together. That relationship you build during fall camp, and it carries over into the season. It’s really special.”

Kennedy is confident that the rotation that the team is using will be ready come opening day.

“We’re getting a good mix of guys to build confidence among the group. You want to fight against the drop off when you sub a guy in. You want the player coming in to have the same level of confidence.

The Hogs will open the season Sept. 2 at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock against Western Carolina at 3 p.m. There will not be a broadcast of the game and it's available only on ESPN+.
