Will Landon Rogers' Exit Not First or Last Player to Leave?

Razorbacks have player hit transfer portal with no indications of who else could leave

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Arkansas coach Sam Pittman told us player interviews would be happening this week.

After the Razorbacks finished with the Red-White practice Saturday at Razorback Stadium, Pittman gave us the schedule for this week and said the players would be talking with their position coaches before seeing him.

"I made that mistake before," he said about talking to the players first.

On Wednesday, Landon Rogers announced on social media he was entering the portal, trying to find a place where he can get playing time. He only played in the blowout win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff in Little Rock back in 2021 during a couple of years where he really didn't fit in anywhere.

Rogers came to Arkansas as a three-star quarterback prospect in the Class of 2021 from Little Rock Parkview began fall camp practicing with the quarterbacks ahead of the 2021 season before moving to tight end and eventually landing in the wide receiver room. He never could find anywhere to get on the field.

The Hogs had 18 players enter the transfer portal during the initial offseason window that lasted from Dec. 5 to Jan. 18. The portal re-opened on April 15, and the window will last until April 30. Pittman isn't expecting a lot of people to hit the door leaving.

"Kids go in for different reasons and all that kind of stuff," Pittman said. "I just don't feel like there will be a mass exit, or possibly any. I feel pretty good about where we're at there."

While he usually tends to have a pretty good read on what's going to happen, nothing leads folks to more surprises than that portal. Both coming and going.

While this departure really isn't that surprising and won't have a lot of impact on the depth chart, you always wonder if there will be more or if this is an isolated case. We've had a few surprises before (Mike Woods a couple of years ago should come immediately to mind).

Expect a couple of players to come in, though. Exactly who that might be right now is anybody's guess.
