Takeaways: Auburn baseball beats No. 4 Tennessee 9-5 in game one

Auburn opened up its series against Tennessee with a win. What are the biggest things to take away from the game?

The Auburn Tigers beat the No. 4 Tennessee Volunteers 9-5 in the first game of the series at Plainsman Park tonight.

The game was explosive at the plate early, but turned into a pitchers dule as it went along.

What are the main things to take away from the game?

Auburn's bullpen got involved early

Dylan Watts got the start for Auburn and did not have his best day. In only 1.1 innings of work, Watts allowed five runs off of six hits.

Carson Myers was the first Tiger to work out of the pin and he got things back on track. In 3.2 innings of work, Myers allowed no runs off of only three hits and struck four batters while only walking three. John Armstrong pitched the rest of the game and also held the Volunteers scoreless.

Auburn's rotation has not had an ideal start to conferece play, but its bullpen has done everything it can to help it along.

Ike Irish had himself a night (shocking)

Auburn's sophomore catcher has had about as good of a start to the season as anyone could have asked for.

The Hudsonville, Mich. native worked his magic once again, going 3-4 with two RBI and one home run.

Irish's batting average, .376, is unsurprisingly the highest on the team for Auburn. His presence at the plate is felt in each and every game. Butch Thompson and company need to make the most of Irish's talents while they have them becuase he could be playing at the next level soon.

Tennessee's lineup had a good night as a unit

Despite the loss, the Volunteers batting order has a lot to hang their helmets on.

Four Volunteers had multiple hits and only four of the Volunteers did not get at least one hit.

Consistency throughout the batting order is one of the main reasons why the Volunteers have gotten off to such a successful start this season.

Auburn is now 18-11 on the season and 2-8 in conference play.
