Takeaways: No. 21 Auburn baseball drops game two to No. 4 Texas A&M

Auburn was unable to even up the series against Texas A&M and the search for its first SEC series win will be extended another week.

The No. 21 Auburn Tigers fell 12-8 against the No. 4 Texas A&M Aggies tonight in the second game of the series.

The Aggies got out in front early and stayed there, but the Tigers rallied in the top of the ninth inning to make the game more competitive.

What are the biggest takeaways from the game?

Ike Irish had another monster performance

Auburn's sophomore catcher added another quality performance to the extensive resume he has built this season.

Irish went 3-5 with five RBI and one home run, a grand slam to right field in the top of the ninth inning.

Auburn tends to have its best performances when Irish is on, but the team was not able to get over the hump tonight.

Chase Allsup struggled

Allsup got the start for Auburn tonight, but it was not exactly smooth sailing for the junior right-hander.

In 4.2 innings of work, Allsup allowed five runs off of seven hits and walked one batter. He did record five strikeouts, but still ended up with the loss.

Auburn's rotation has been put to the test early on in conference play and it has not quite been up to the challenege so far.

Braden Montgomery made things difficult for Auburn

Texas A&M's right fielder had a night at the plate.

Montgomery went 3-4 with three RBI and hit two home runs, the first was a two-run shot to left field in the bottom of the fifth inning and the second was a solo homer to center in the bottom of the eighth inning.

The SEC is loaded with players who are capable of taking over a game on any given night. The Tigers came across one of those guys in this game.

Auburn is now 16-10 on the season and 1-7 in conference play.

What's Next?

The Tigers will attempt to avoid the sweep tomorrow at 7 p.m. CT. The television broadcast can be found on SEC Network and the Auburn Sports Network broadcast can be streamed anywhere on the Auburn Athletics app.
