It was another wild week of baseball that showed us some more about which teams are contenders and which ones are pretenders.

What has been so exciting about SEC baseball so far this season is the teams that have been surprisingly elite to start the season.

Let's look at our seven SEC baseball power rankings.

14. Mississippi State Bulldogs

Record: 14-11 (0-6 SEC)

Last Week's Rank: 14

Week Six Recap: Saying it's been a rough start for Mississippi State is an understatement. Everyone thought they would be back after a rough year a season ago, and that has not been the case. They were swept by Vandy this weekend and gave up double-digit runs every game. This looks like it is going to be another season where the Bulldogs are at the bottom of the barrel in the SEC.

Week Seven Opponents: Midweek: Tue Samford. Weekend Series: #9 South Carolina

13. Georgia Bulldogs

Record: 15-9 (1-5 SEC)

Last Week's Rank: 12

Week Six Recap: Georgia lost the series at Auburn but was able to avoid the sweep on Sunday. This team has a lot of offensive firepower, but the pitching has been rough at times. They could get hot and go on a run thanks to the mashers in the middle of the lineup and veteran leadership, but until that happens, they will stay near the bottom of the SEC.

Week Seven Opponents: Midweek: Wed: Georgia Southern. Weekend Series: @ #4 Vanderbilt

12. Auburn Tigers

Record: 16-7-1 (2-4 SEC)

Last Week's Rank: 13

Week Six Recap: Auburn had a good week winning their midweek game and the series with Georgia. They got a key piece back to their lineup in Bobby Peirce, which has them one player closer to full strength. They have another tall task ahead of them, heading to play the Florida Gators. This is a week where if you go 2-2 winning your midweek and avoid a sweep, you leave happy.

Week Seven Opponents: Midweek: Tue North Alabama. Weekend Series: @ #3 Florida

11. Alabama Crimson Tide

Record: 19-6 (2-4 SEC)

Last Week's Rank: 11

Week Six Recap: Alabama lost their series to a surprisingly hot Kentucky team at home this weekend. Alabama has been a team that seems like they are good but has done nothing to prove it. If they get swept this weekend by an outstanding Arkansas team, Alabama will fall to the lower parts of these rankings, but if they can find a way to win it they will move up a bunch of spots.

Week Seven Opponents: Midweek: Tue MTSU. Weekend Series: @ #6 Arkansas

10. Ole Miss Rebels

Record: 15-9 (0-6 SEC)

Last Week's Rank: 7

Week Six Recap: Ole Miss has been really disappointing early this season, being swept by Vandy and Florida back-to-back weeks. These are two excellent ball clubs, but we thought Ole Miss was, too, so it's sad to see them losing like this. I still believe this team will hit its stride, but this needs to happen soon, or this season could derail fast.

Week Seven Opponents: Midweek: Tue: Southern Miss. Weekend Series: @ Texas A&M

9. Texas A&M Aggies

Record: 15-9 (1-5 SEC)

Last Week's Rank: 6

Week Six Recap: Texas A&M is another team like Ole Miss that has really underperformed expectations early this season. They lost their series with LSU and were swept by Tennessee. Now, this is a gauntlet of a two-week stretch, but only having one win hurts. They have an opportunity to make a statement as they host Ole Miss this weekend.

Week Seven Opponents: Midweek: Tue: #21 Texas. Weekend Series: Ole Miss

8. Tennessee Volunteers (10)

Record: 19-6 (3-3 SEC)

Last Week's Rank: 9

Week Six Recap: Tennessee had a tremendous bounce-back week sweeping a ranked Texas A&M team. Now they have a challenging task ahead as they will head to the Bayou to play the best team in baseball. If they find a way to win this series, the Vols will prove they are who we thought they were heading into the season.

Week Seven Opponents: Midweek: Tue: UNC Ashville. Weekend Series: @ #1 LSU

7. Missouri Tigers

Record: 17-6 (3-3 SEC)

Last Week's Rank: 8

Week Six Recap: Missouri was swept by South Carolina, but they played them close in two of the three games of the series, losing by only one run. I am fully in on this Missouri baseball team going forward. They have another chance to make a statement this week as they head to Lexington to take on the ranked Wildcats.

Week Seven Opponents: Midweek: Tue @ Illinois, Wed @ Lindenwood. Weekend Series: @ #18 Kentucky

6. Kentucky Wildcats (18)

Record: 21-3 (5-1 SEC)

Last Week's Rank: 10

Week Six Recap: It is official. We can no longer pretend like Kentucky's start to the season has been a fluke. They are the real deal. They swept Mississippi State and then won their series at Alabama. This team can pitch it and hit it. They will look to stay hot this week when Missouri comes to town.

Week Seven Opponents: Midweek: Tue: @WKU. Weekend Series: Missorui

5. Arkansas Razorbacks (6)

Record: 20-4 (4-2 SEC)

Last Week's Rank: 4

Week Six Recap: Arkansas lost the series to LSU but was able to live with a win. They are the real deal; I think LSU is slightly better than them. They will host Alabama this weekend in a series I think they will win this ease. This Razorback team has a real chance to make back-to-back Omaha appearances.

Week Seven Opponents: Midweek: Tue: Omaha. Weekend Series: Alabama

4. Florida Gators (3)

Record: 18-4 (5-1 SEC)

Last Week's Rank: 3

Week Six Recap: Florida had a phenomenal week winning a midweek game at Florida State, then sweeping Ole Miss on the road. I think they are really in the conversation for the best team in the nation. Florida will host Auburn this week in a winnable series at their ballpark.

Week Seven Opponents: Midweek Tue: Florida State. Weekend Series: Auburn

3. South Carolina Gamecocks (9)

Record: 23-2 (6-0 SEC)

Last Week's Rank: 5

Week Six Recap: South Carolina is an excellent team. It is hard to find words to describe them since they just win ball games. They swept a ranked Missouri team this weekend to start SEC play 6-0. I believe this will sweep Mississippi State this upcoming weekend to start SEC play 9-0. I expect to see this team in the College World Series this year.

Week Seven Opponents: Midweek: Tue @ The Citadel. Weekend Series: @ Mississippi State

2. Vanderbilt Commodores (4)

Record: 19-5 (6-0 SEC)

Last Week's Rank: 2

Week Six Recap: Vanderbilt has had a perfect start to SEC play, starting 6-0. They swept the state of Mississippi over these past two weekends. They will host Georgia in Music City this weekend in a series I expect them to sweep. Vandy had a rocky start to the season, but they are figuring things out at the right time in SEC play.

Week Seven Opponents: Midweek: Tue: Lipscomb. Weekend Series: Georgia

1. LSU Tigers (1)

Record: 21-3 (4-2 SEC)

Last Week's Rank: 1

Week Six Recap: LSU won their series over #6 Arkansas last weekend after losing the opener, which is impressive. They scored double-digit runs on both Saturday and Sunday, leading to the series victory. LSU will host Tennessee this weekend in what is sure to be a fun series. I expect LSU to win this one in front of their home crowd.

Week Seven Opponents: Midweek: Tue Central Grambling. Weekend Series: #10 Tennessee

There are some excellent matchups in the SEC, so sit back and enjoy the action.
