Duke signee Mackenzie Mgbako has requested a release from his NLI

Former Duke signee Mackenzie Mgbako will reopen his recruitment; will Auburn make a hard push?

Mackenzie Mgbako is a five-star power forward who has been signed with Duke since November 15, 2022.

Mgbako recently requested a release from his NLI and will reopen his recruitment.

Why is this a big deal for Auburn fans?

Well, there are two reasons. One being Mgbako would be a perfect fit for what Auburn still needs on the roster heading into the 2023-24 season. Two, Auburn was one of the earliest teams to offer Mgbako on September 29, 2020.

The Tigers were not a front runner for this talented six-foot-eight 210-pound power forward, but they have a chance to get back in the running.

Mgbako scored 22 points and grabbed nine boards while representing the world team at the Nike Hoop Summit, where he was teammates with Auburn signee Aden Holloway.

Mgbako has a deadly mixture of shooting and driving ability but excels at every facet of the game.

The power forward position is one of need for the Tigers as Yohan Traore hit the portal a few weeks ago.

Coach Pearl's sell when initially recruiting Mgbako must have been much tougher when Traore and Jaylin Williams were both on the roster, but now that Traore is gone, the pitch might have gotten a bit easier.

It would definitely be an uphill battle for Coach Pearl and company to land the number seven player in the 2023 class this late, but adding Mgbako would give this roster a massive boost.

Mgbako used the words "reopen my recruitment" in his message, saying he was requesting an NLI release from Duke so he could be open to options all over, and Auburn could be one of them.
