Stock Risers from Auburn Basketball’s win in Brooklyn

These players are trending up after Auburn's win over Notre Dame.

The Tigers roared out to a huge lead to start the game Thursday night. Auburn outclassed Notre Dame, but the Irish mounted a late first-half comeback that brought the lead to six. Auburn quickly regained control starting the 2nd half on an 11-0 run and never relented. Auburn’s first game of the Legends Classic at the Barclays Center was a success. Here are the three biggest stock risers from the night.

Johni Broome

Broome is not so quietly one of the best-returning players in college basketball. He received a lot of preseason acclaim from big names in the college basketball world and is beginning to prove them right. Broome looked like a man among boys out there as he often does. He is polished, professional, and passionate. Auburn is lucky to have him back this year.

Aden Holloway

The freshman sensation tied Broome for Auburn’s leading scorer at 15. Holloway also appears to have won the starting job away from Tre Donaldson who also had a good night. Let’s be frank. Holloway looks fantastic out there. I have yet to use the modern saying in written or spoken word, but I am now compelled. Aden Holloway is him. He was 4-5 from three! Words cannot express the degree to which Holloway’s stock is rising. He may represent Auburn in the NBA one day.

Auburn Basketball

The last stock riser is this Auburn team itself. Chris Moore, Jaylin Williams, and Tre Donaldson all had nights worthy of mention, but it was the team that made a statement Thursday night. The Tigers led a great Baylor team for most of their opening game before ultimately losing. The lack of respect in the polls could be concerning at first glance for the program. Thursday night assured me there was no cause for concern. Auburn does have a team that can contend for titles. I believe this team to be better than last year and that they do belong in the top 25. This Auburn team passes the eye test. There is a long season to go, but the Tigers have dominated their last two opponents and have flashed the type of upside fans have been hoping for. Auburn will look to win the Legends Classic Friday night against St. Bonaventure.
