Auburn WBB improves to 2-0 with win over Louisiana

It's not how you start, it's how you finish. That was the theme of Auburn's 60-54 win over Louisiana.
“We came out flat,” Auburn coach Johnnie Harris said. “After halftime, we just battled. It wasn’t a pretty game but the way they bounced back and fought down the stretch, I was really proud of them. We have to start better. I love the way they responded in the second half.”
The Tigers trailed by 10 after the first quarter in which they only scored four points. The second quarter was not much of an improvement and Auburn was down 25-16 at the half.
When the second half started, however, a different team took the court for Auburn. The Tigers made five of their first seven shots and quickly evened up the score. They went back and forth with the Ragin' Cajuns but managed to pull away down the stretch.
Two late 3-pointers from Honesty Scott-Grayson helped put the game on ice for the Tigers. A lot of their success can also be attributed to Taylor Collins and Savanna Scott.
Scott led Auburn in scoring with 16 points and also grabbed six rebounds.
“I work on all these things during practice,” Scott said. “I went out there and did what I do, and I was put in a good position by my guards.”
Collins was one point shy of posting a double-double. She led the team in rebounds with 14.
“I struggled a lot the first half,” Collins said. “In the second half I started to relax, I started getting rebounds, that got my momentum going and it started to pick up for me.”
Scott-Grayson ended up with 15 points and eight rebounds.
“She’s just a warrior,” Harris said about Scott-Grayson. “She’s always coming up with big shots and I have all the confidence in her.”
Auburn had a sizable advantage in offensive rebounds, grabbing 18 to Louisiana's eight. This led to 16 second-chance points for the Tigers to six for the Ragin' Cajuns which ended up being a difference-maker at the end.
Auburn will be back in action on Sunday when it takes on Rutgers on the road in Piscataway, N.J. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m. CT and the broadcast can be found on the Big 10 Network. The radio broadcast can be heard locally on 100.3 FM.
