Auburn has reached out to former Syracuse guard Joe Girard

Auburn is pursuing former Syracuse guard Joe Girard.

Joe Girard III is a six-foot-one guard who has spent his last four years playing his college ball for Syracuse.

He recently decided to test the NBA waters while retaining his college eligibility. Since putting his name in the portal, he has been pursued by multiple schools, including Auburn.

Girard would give Auburn a huge boost, as he is a proven scorer at the power five level.

It seems like many of the players Coach Pearl brings in via the portal are proven mid-major players i.e., Johni Broome, Wendell Green Jr., and Zep Jasper.

Girard would be a change-up from that, as he averaged 16.4 points per game a season ago for the Orange.

He shot 38.1 percent from three last year and made three or more triples in 17 games.

This is the type of player that can score the basketball from anywhere on the court and would be an immediate fix to the guard question marks around this team in 2023-24.

There is a long way to go with Girard's recruitment as he will still test the NBA waters, but he would fit in perfectly on the Plains.

They call him JG3, which is a great nickname that would be exciting to hear shouted from the rafters of Neville Arena.
