Auburn lands a talented guard in the transfer portal

Bruce Pearl just landed an elite guard in the transfer portal.

The Auburn Tigers lost a handful of guards to the transfer portal as Tre Donaldson, Aden Holloway, and KD Johnson are all gone, so Bruce Pearl needed to add a talented ball handler.

Coach Pearl did just that as former Furman point guard JP Pegues just chose the Auburn Tigers.

Last season for the Paladins, Pegues averaged 18.4 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 4.8 assists. Pegues shot 36.2% from three last season for Furman, and he will be an elite shooter in Neville Arena. He chose the Tigers over Florida, Oklahoma, and South Carolina.

Pegues had this to say about why he chose Auburn, “I chose Auburn because of their conviction and the vivid vision that they had for me,” he said. “I also love how they operate in a family oriented environment which was a big priority for me. Lastly, Auburn is a winning program and one of the best defenses in the country.”

Auburn will have Denver Jones back and five-star guard Tahaad Pettiford coming in, so now, with the addition of Pegues, the Tigers backcourt is in a really good spot for next season.

You will likely see Coach Pearl go add more guards via the portal, but you have to assume that Pegues will be the starter.

Jones might play a little bit of one on top of playing off-ball. Coach Pearl has a ton of different directions he can take next season's roster. The 6'1 185 guard Pegues from Furman will not be Coach Pearl's final addition in the transfer portal.
