Talented defensive lineman Dimitry Nicolas commits to the Auburn Tigers

Auburn gains its third defensive line commit of the 2024 class.

Dimitry Nicolas, an underrated defensive lineman in the 2024 class, has committed to play for Auburn. Nicolas was somewhat of a surprise commitment as Auburn decided to turn up the heat following the Kamarion Franklin commitment to Ole Miss. Auburn now has three defensive linemen on board for the 2024 class, and it is expected that a defensive end could be added to round out a solid first-year class for Jeremy Garrett.

Nicolas is just a three-star recruit but is expected to make another leap forward following a breakout junior season. Nicolas totaled 15 tackles for loss and eight sacks last season when he attended Monsignor Pace in Miami. Following his breakout, he transferred to Norland, another 2M school in the Miami area. Norland and Nicolas will play their first game a week from today, on September 1st.

Nicolas recruitment started off hot, receiving offers from Texas A&M, Miami, and Georgia as just a Sophomore, but following his Sophomore campaign, it slowed down, picking up again following that impressive Junior season mentioned earlier. Auburn offered in this second wave, and when Jeremy Garrett and the new staff came in, they kept communication open with Dimitry. Auburn got Nicolas on campus for Big Cat Weekend, and from that point on, his recruitment seemed to be all Auburn; his commitment affirmed that idea.

Dimitry projects as an interior defensive tackle at the next level and forecasts to compete for the nose position in Ron Roberts's 3-3-5 defense. Standing at six-foot-four and weighing in at around 295 pounds, it is easy to see him at the nose or a tackle position in his years on the Plains. Despite playing in the middle, Nicolas has a knack for getting to the quarterback, but his true gift is breaking the offensive line and stopping the run.

The addition of Nicolas gives Auburn a slight boost in the national recruiting rankings; with 17 recruits, they are still ranked 14th in the country, according to 247 Sports. Auburn trails six other SEC teams and is right on the heels of Clemson and Oregon.
