Auburn's secondary may be one of the units that quietly improves the most underneath new head coach Hugh Freeze and defensive coordinator Ron Roberts.

According to college football social media influencer Big Game Boomer, the Tigers have two of the 50 best cornerbacks in the country heading into 2023.

Corners DJ James and Nehemiah Pritchett made the list at No. 18 and No. 26, respectively. Five cornerbacks from the SEC rank higher than James at 18, including Jason Marshall Jr (Florida, Marcellas Dial (South Carolina), Dwight McGlothern (Arkansas), Kamari Lassiter (Georgia), and Kool-Aid McKinstry (Alabama).

James finished the 2023 season as arguably Auburn's most valuable player on either side of the ball, recording 37 total tackles and an interception that was returned for a touchdown. He also held Auburn's highest PFF grade on roster.

There's been debate about whether or not James is deserving of being ranked higher as a CB in the SEC given his individual accomplishments in 2022, but regardless of where he ranks it still stands that he should be one of if not the most consistent piece on Auburn's defense this upcoming season.

Pritchett had a career-high 37 tackles and 4.5 tackles for loss last season, adding to his career total of 93 tackles.
