Auburn is about to get a piece back in their backfield.
Tigers' running back Damari Alston is expected to return from a shoulder injury against Mississippi State, Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze said during the weekly SEC teleconference.
"I think they will let him go. I'm not 100% on that, but I think it's trending that way," Freeze said.
Alston hasn't played since week four against Texas A&M. The second-string back was hit hard on a pitch play early in the game and has not seen the field since. Through three games and change, Alston had 131 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown on 26 carries. He had a career-high 51 rushing yards on eight attempts against California in week two. Alston also has five receptions for 37 yards.
With Alston returning, the Tigers will likely go back to their four back rotation of Jarquez Hunter, Damari Alston, Brian Battie, and Jeremiah Cobb.
