Auburn’s massive defensive lineman Jeffrey M’ba means business

Going into his second season at Auburn, the fascinating Frenchman exudes confidence.

If you were designing an SEC defensive lineman, you would start with size.

6-foot-6, 310 pounds would be a nice starting place. You would give him all the tools needed to be one of, if not the best, linemen in the country. To show off what you have designed, you could give him a cool number - emblazon the number “one” across his chest. He would make a pretty awesome Madden creation, right?

What you would have would be Auburn defensive lineman Jeffrey M’Ba, The number one overall JUCO recruit that chose to come to Auburn prior to last season. With a season under his belt, M’Ba says his time is now. This is his year.

In his first words with media for spring practices, M’Ba grin was nearly as large as he is. He noted how Auburn feels like a new team now. He humbly discussed the transition to a new coaching staff and new facilities has been easy, and how all of it combines to set him up for success. He spoke graciously about how his new coaches work to develop him as a person and as a player.

Then, his tone changed immediately as he thinks back to how much trust there is now that just wasn’t there last year. It becomes obvious: Last year is gone. Experience brings confidence.

The grin is just as real as when he first arrived on campus. Everything else has changed. When asked how he was bonding with his teammates, M’Ba doesn’t hesitate to state it feels like they have been "playing together for five years." The chemistry has already built that far this early into spring practices. He has found who he is as a player and predicts it is going to be a great year. The realization of being a unicorn with an impossible combination a large physique and the ability to move has happened. When asked about the passion he brings to the team, the answer is immediate, “I think I am crazy”. Confidence, hard work, and ability bring production.

In one interview, Jeffrey M’Ba put the entire SEC on notice. He is ready to fulfill his life-guiding Latin phrase: “Vae Victus," which translates woe to the vanquished or conquered. Offenses should not expect—or request— his leniency. There is absolute dedication to his goal of heading for the NFL after the 2023 season. Woe be to those who get in his way.
