Auburn Briefing: Damari Alston continues to impress

In this story:
Auburn's running back room is stacked and the ascension of Damari Alston this offseason has only made the room deeper.
Of course, Jarquez Hunter will be the favorite to lead Auburn's offense in carries this year but the gap between Hunter and Alston seems to be much closer than many expected.
Alston had a long run that went for a score in Saturday's scrimmage. According to reports, he was able to create space with his speed and forced Auburn's defensive backs to miss which allowed him to score.
Alston is listed at 5-foot-9, 209 pounds on Auburn's online roster. His burst and speed can be electric this season especially in a potential number two back role after Hunter has been wearing down opposing defenses.
“After last year, being behind Tank and Jarquez, I learned a lot about leadership," Alston said to media on Tuesday. "One of my goals was to come in and be a leader and help my team out. I wanted to embrace that role. It started during summer workouts, and took that leadership role to the next level. The guys listen to me, listen to anything I have to say. That’s what we have to do to be close as a team. Being a leader, it’s going to help us go far this season."
Last season, Alston carried the ball 14 times for 85 yards.
What's happening today
On Tuesday, the media will meet with the offensive assistant coaches: Ben Aigamaua, Marcus Davis, Jake Thornton, and Carnell Wiliams. Soccer coach Karen Hoppa and volleyball coach Brent Crouch will also speak with media at that time.
The media will be able to watch part of practice this evening around 6:15 pm CT.
They said it
Auburn defensive lineman Jayson Jones was one of several players that met with the media yesterday. He was asked about the scrimmage on Saturday.
“We all have something to work on. Whether that is conditioning, whether it is getting your body right, whether we need to pass rush better, run defend better, just a lot of stuff. We’re doing that, I have full trust in this D line."
