Auburn Fall Practice Observations: August 15th

Here's what we saw during our media viewing window on Tuesday.

Auburn's second full week of Fall camp is underway. 

Hugh Freeze's Tigers are closer to figuring out the depth chart after going through the first scrimmage of camp on Saturday. Here are our notes:

We saw Payton Thorne warming up and taking snaps with Avery Jones. Robby Ashford was taking snaps with Connor Lew.

The starting offense when running reps against air was:

QB: Payton Thorne
RB: Jarquez Hunter
WR: Caleb Burton, Nick Mardner, and Jay Fair
TE: Rivaldo Fairweather
OL: Dillon Wade, Jeremiah Wright, Avery Jones, Kam Stutts, Gunner Britton

We saw Jyaire Shorter rotate in with Burton and Malcolm Johnson Jr. switch in with Mardner. 

The second complete unit after they rotated in appeared to be:

QB: Robby Ashford
RB: Damari Alston
WR: Camden Brown, Shane Hooks, and Rivaldo Fairweather were at the slot
TE: Luke Deal
OL: Jaden Muskrat, Tate Johnson, Connor Lew, Jalil Irvin, Izavion Miller

We saw Tyler Fromm rotate in with Deal at tight end. They lined up Deal at slot as well. Omari Kelly was with both groups. 

Holden Geriner was with the third group and Brian Battie was at running back.

When Thorne came back in with the first group, we saw Deal and Fairweather on the same side of the formation. Shorter and Fair lined up at wide receiver. We also saw them run a quarterback keeper with Thorne.

Then we saw them run team drills - 11-on-11 at a walkthrough-type pace. 

Robby Ashford started that session with the first team. He was with Kelly, Fairweather, Fair, and Mardner. 

Starting at linebacker, we saw Larry Nixon III and Eugene Asante. 

While all this was happening, the kickers were outside kicking field goals. 

At the end of our window, while the team was stretching, we saw a gentleman named Jay walk out to meet Hugh Freeze with a green box. They shook hands. Freeze opened the box. He took out a wonderful-looking blue belt. Freeze looked thankful for the blue belt. The gentleman named Jay and Freeze took a picture of them holding the blue belt. The gentleman named Jay walked off the field. 

Our viewing window then ended. 

Auburn is off on Wednesday to align with the first day of classes.
